Advent Wreath

9 December 2025 07:00 p.m.
University of Debrecen - Auditorium
4032 Debrecen, Egyetem tér 1.

"The silence and brightness of Advent invite listeners to a festive gathering: the Kodály Choir Debrecen's Christmas concert weaves together music by old masters and contemporary composers. The concert is framed by Magnificats by Albinoni and Vivaldi, deepening the reverence of anticipation, while Praetorius' motet evokes the shepherds' joyful news. The moments of wonder are made timeless by Javier Busto's O magnum mysterium and Péter Tóth's Christmas lullaby, Dormi Jesu, while excerpts from Rheinberger's Mass in E-flat major enrich the evening with the colors of 19th-century German Romanticism. In the monumental interior of the University of Debrecen's Auditorium, the artists of the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra complement the singing voices, with Olga Vojevogyina, the ensemble's répétiteur, playing the piano. To quote the choir's principal conductor, Zoltán Kocsis-Holper: "The beautiful melodies that weave through the winter evening bring festive light to our hearts and help us to immerse ourselves in the most intimate period of the year." The concert promises to be a truly uplifting musical experience in the weeks leading up to Christmas."     /Endre Tóth/
